I have drawn very dead snakes in museums. However, I was lucky to have
the chance to draw this live garter snake when my neighbours found one in their
yard and put it in an aquarium box for a day before releasing it again.

This stone litho is inspired by the quilts my mother made for us when we
were small. The quilts were often made from scraps left over from other
sewing projects. Each square reminded us of a dress, a blouse, pajamas,
or curtains she had made. On one quilt, there was a square of fabric with
puppies printed all over it. I'd stare at that square and dream about having
a romping puppy like one of those for my very own. When we did get our
wonderful dog from the pound, and he actually looked exactly like one of the
puppies on the quilt, it made me think that the quilt had magical powers.
